Make A Difference By Being The Difference

There are many ways you can make a difference in the world.  The key to changing the world is to ask yourself "What change do I wish to see in the world?" and then go and be that change!

All of the significant changes that have taken place on this planet did not occur because of military might, or the will of powerful nations.   What brought these significant changes was the courage, compassion and determination of individuals just like you.

We may look back through history and see names like Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison, Mahatma Ghandi, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King or Nelson Mandela and think that these were "extra special" people who had that "something" that made them great.  I agree with that, but here's the thing…YOU have that "extra-special-something" also!

"Be the change you want to see in the world" -Mahatma Ghandi

You have more power to influence than you may realize.  Everything you do or say, every little action you take has profound effects on those around you.  Nothing is insignificant!  Click this link to read a great example of how a seemingly small act made a difference in the lives of several people in a matter of minutes.  When we say "change the world" know that the world you have the first and greatest influence on is the "world" around you.  By that I mean the people you see every day,  and the places you go.  Become change there, and watch it spread, just as in the example you, hopefully, just went to and read.

Each of us have a unique purpose and can bring something wonderful to the world in a way like no other person can.  Each of us have the power to influence and guess what!  We use this power of influence every day whether we realize it or not.  Be aware.  Make a conscious decision to become what you know the world needs.  Remember, inner change always precedes outer change.

"In a gentle way you can shake the world." -Mahatma Ghandi

You don't have to have special training, be a great speaker, or do outlandish things.  Read again the quote above and then the following examples:

  1. If you see the world around you needs more love, then be more loving (even to the jerk who is tailgating you in rush hour traffic).

  2. If you see the world around you needs more compassion, be more compassionate (even to the person who is rude to you at work)

  3. If you see the world around you needs more patience,  be more patient (even to the person behind the counter who still hasn't gotten your order right)

  4. If you see the world around you needs more gratitude, be more grateful (even for the job you dislike)

  5. If you see the world around you needs more kindness, be more kind (even to the person who cut in front of you in line)

 You get  the idea, right?

I leave you with this thought from Ghandi,

"Consciously or unconsciously, every one of us does render some service or other. If we cultivate the habit of doing this service deliberately, our desire for service will steadily grow stronger and we will make not only our own happiness, but that of the world at large."
