"If we want a love message to be heard, it has got to be sent out.
To keep a lamp burning, we have to keep putting oil in it."
-Mother Teresa
When
you love someone how do they know that you love them? Do they know merely because you tell them so? Perhaps that is a part of it, but the
primary reason they know you love them is because you show them your
love through your actions!
"I have always thought the actions of men the best interpreters of their thoughts"
-John Locke
Love
is both an action and a feeling. I do
not think it can be one without the other.
We often speak of changing the world; we get involved in organizations
that perform all sorts of charitable acts.
We may provide food for those who have none, shelter for the homeless,
companionship to the lonely, or even a ride to work to someone without
transportation. Perhaps we’ll adopt an
orphaned child, help an elderly neighbor mow the yard, or offer a smile to a
stranger. What motivates us to do such
things? It isn’t material gain and
seldom is there any public recognition.
So what is it? We behave in such
ways because we care, and to care about another person is a form of love. Love is a concept that resists simple
explanation but it is always a motivator!
"Small deeds done are better than great deeds planned"
-Peter Marshall
I write only what is in my
heart, and lately I have thought a great deal on showing love through
action. As I evolve as a person I find
myself feeling compelled to do more.
This, I feel, is a direct result of loving more and experiencing love on
an ever-deepening level. There is so
much I want to do, and I have grand visions of all that can be done for my
fellow human beings. Then there is the
truth of the quote above. One,
seemingly small act of love will always mean more than the best laid plans that
I never carry out. This truth I will
carry in my heart from this day forward.
Besides, grand plans and ideas are made up of many small actions, right?
Like the old proverb given to us by Lao-tzu says “A journey of
a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
Let’s start walkin’…..
