Do you want to make the world a better place to live? Not just for yourself, but for your friends, family, and even complete strangers? Do you want a world with less violence and more peace? Do you desire to see more love and less hate? Do you want to see the homeless given shelter, the hungry fed, the sad made happy and the weak made strong? So do I.
It seems to be an overwhelming task and if you’re wondering where to start, wonder no more because I am going to tell you where to begin.
It All Begins With YOU!
“It all begins with you”. Like me, you’ve probably heard that phrase about a million times, but what does it mean? You can ask a hundred people what that phrase is intended to mean and you may get a hundred different answers. What I offer in this post is what it means to me. Perhaps it will resonate with you as well.
There’s a famous quote that goes like this, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. It is usually credited to Ghandi, though I have also read that it wasn’t him at all but someone else. Regardless of who said it, the truth it so succinctly conveys remains the same. If we want to literally change the world for the better the first changes that must take place will be within ourselves. Always. Every time. No exceptions.
- If you want more love, then YOU must become more loving.
- If you want less hate, then YOU must hate less.
- If you want more peace, then YOU must become more peaceful.
- If you want the hungry fed, then YOU must feed them.
That list could go on forever, but you get the point, right? These things are all possible and can be brought to life, right where you are, but they must first live in you! "BE" the change you wish to see in the world. The definition of the word BE is “to exist in actuality; have life or reality” and in the context of the quote is a verb. It is an ACTION word. We must not just think different, we must act different as well!

I wonder how many would still wish to change the world if they fully understood that change must first take place within themselves?
When we observe something that needs to be done, we can look upon it with much feeling and think “Someone should do something about this” or
we can boldly say “I will do something about this!”.
If you truly want to change the world, there is no other way.
